Jobs that previously took days to complete can now be turned around in a matter of hours, thanks to the Acuity Prime’s efficiency

Aaron Klewchuk, Business Owner | Ballyprint and Impro Printing

Ballyprint, which began as a small copy shop in Ballymena, Northern Ireland in 2009, has grown into a dynamic commercial printing company, serving sectors including the financial, pharmaceutical, creative and marketing industries. With a team of ten dedicated professionals, Ballyprint is committed to delivering high-end print solutions ranging from small format to large format projects.

Ballyprint became the first company anywhere in Ireland to invest in the Fujifilm Acuity Prime when it was installed in April 2024. The Fujifilm flatbed was selected after a thorough evaluation of the alternatives, with Fujifilm’s reputation for innovative technology a decisive factor in the decision, combined with the Acuity Prime’s speed, energy efficiency, and reduced ink consumption.

Trusted Fujifilm sales partner in Northern Ireland, Alphagraphic Inks, played a crucial role in facilitating the deal and ensuring a seamless installation process. Its partnership with Fujifilm has been instrumental in bringing the cutting-edge Acuity Prime to Ballyprint, marking a new era of enhanced printing capabilities and customer satisfaction.

Business owner, Aaron Klewchuk, comments, “Fujifilm’s Acuity Prime stood out due to its superior design and the company’s ongoing R&D efforts. The ability to print on a wide range of materials, including PVC-free options, paper boards and more has already broadened our service offerings and improved our production processes.”

The installation of the Acuity Prime has already provided significant benefits to the company. Klewchuk adds: “Jobs that previously took days to complete can now be turned around in a matter of hours, thanks to the Acuity Prime’s efficiency. This improvement has been particularly crucial in meeting the tight deadlines often demanded by clients, especially for large format printing projects.”

“Our previous machine was nearly fifteen years old, and the upgrade to the Acuity Prime has been transformative,” Klewchuk continues. “The speed of the new machine is at least 45% faster, and the energy and ink consumption have both significantly decreased. This has not only improved our turnaround times but also reduced our operational costs.”

In August 2024, Ballyprint continued to expand its capabilities with the installation of the Revoria Press PC1120, a toner press known for its superior print quality and versatility. “With our previous machine, we saw an opportunity to serve the creative market with metallic finishes and speciality colours,” says Klewchuk. “With the Revoria Press PC1120, we’re taking it a step further. Its ability to print vivid colours like fluorescent pink, along with improved handling of synthetic materials, allows us to offer even more to our clients, especially those in the creative industries.”

And the Fujifilm investments did not end there. Belfast-based Impro Printing, a B2 commercial print company acquired by Klewchuk in 2022 to prevent it from going into liquidation, has also benefited from the partnership with Fujifilm. As part of a broader effort to revive and expand Impro Printing’s business, the installation of the Revoria Press EC1100 in September 2024 is expected to support the company’s growing demand for digital print services and enhance service offerings across both businesses.

Klewchuk explains: “Impro Printing has been a crucial part of our growth strategy. Since acquiring the company, we’ve witnessed great success, and we’re on track to continue that momentum. The addition of the Revoria EC1100 allows us to keep up with the increased volume of digital work while complementing our sheet-fed litho services. It’s a versatile machine that can handle a wide range of jobs, ensuring we can meet the growing demands of our clients.”

Both Ballyprint and Impro Printing’s investments are a testament to their strong partnership with Fujifilm. Aaron adds: “We chose Fujifilm not just for their machines but for the people behind the brand. The support and service we’ve received from the Fujifilm team have been second to none. Their roadmap for growth in the UK aligns perfectly with our vision for the future.”

Looking ahead, Ballyprint and Impro Printing are poised for further growth and expansion, leveraging these new technologies to stay ahead of industry trends. “With Fujifilm as a partner, we’re confident that we can continue to push boundaries and deliver exceptional value to our clients,” Klewchuk concludes.

Andy Kent, General Manager, Fujifilm Graphic Communications, UK & Ireland adds: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Ballyprint and Impro Printing. Their decision to invest in the Acuity Prime, Revoria Press PC1120 and EC1100 underscores their commitment to quality and innovation. As the first company in Ireland to adopt these technologies, they’re setting a new standard for excellence in the commercial print sector, and we look forward to supporting them on their journey.”

Darren Moorhouse, Head of Sales EMEA | ARC UK

ARC UK, a leading provider of wide format digital print and creative design services, has invested in the Fujifilm Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED, installed at its headquarters in Dartford, Kent. This cutting-edge wide format printer was conceived and designed just down the road, in Broadstairs, Kent, at Fujifilm’s Wide Format Inkjet Headquarters. The inks that power the printer are designed and produced at the same Broadstairs site, and the inkjet technology and market-leading ink in combination, are enabling ARC to deliver a combination of superior print quality, greater versatility, and faster turnaround times. The installation marks a significant step forward in ARC’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, providing a strategic advantage in the highly competitive UK print market.

LuXtreme LED Curing System

Reading time: 4 minutes

Highlights

Company Overview: Aztec Label, a family-run business based in Kidderminster, UK, has been supplying high-quality self-adhesive labels since 1993, with rapid growth over the years.

Fujifilm Partnership: Aztec Label has been a long-time Fujifilm customer, previously investing in C-Touch processors, Flenex flexo plates, and Sericol JJ LED UV inks, trusting Fujifilm’s reputation for performance and reliability.

LuXtreme LED Curing System Installation: In May 2024, Aztec Label installed the Fujifilm LuXtreme LED curing system, which has significantly improved operational efficiency with almost instant drying of inks and easy-to-use controls.

Energy and Cost Savings: The transition to LED technology has led to a 63% reduction in energy consumption, helping Aztec Label manage rising energy prices while reducing maintenance costs and downtime associated with traditional UV systems.

The transition has not only allowed us to maintain energy costs comparable to a decade ago, despite tripling production, but it also enhances operational efficiency.

Colin Le Gresley, Owner | Aztec Label

Watch the video

Based in Kidderminster, UK, Aztec Label is a family-run business that has supplied high quality self-adhesive label products to a wide range of customers for 30 years. Owner, Colin Le Gresley, founded the company in his garage in 1993 and, since then, the business has grown rapidly. In May 2024, Aztec Label installed Fujifilm’s LuXtreme LED curing system.

A Fujifilm customer for several years now, Aztec Label previously invested in two C-Touch processors, Flenex water-washable flexo plates, and Sericol JJ LED UV inks.

“The choice to work with Fujifilm has always been driven by their solid reputation and the trust they instil in our customers,” said Colin. “Their systems have consistently delivered us exceptional performance and reliability, which is crucial for our operations.

“The LuXtreme LED curing system has proven to be a game changer. The installation was handled with ease and the system is remarkably efficient. The operators appreciate the simplicity of the controls, and the LED response time is perfect. As soon as we’re ready to print, we can dry our inks almost instantaneously, with no delays.”

One of the primary motivations for transitioning to LED technology was the significant energy savings. “Through rigorous testing, we demonstrated a remarkable 63% reduction in power consumption compared to traditional UV systems. With energy prices soaring, this shift not only makes financial sense but also aligns with our continued commitment to sustainability,” Colin explained.

“The transition has not only allowed us to maintain energy costs comparable to a decade ago, despite tripling production, but it also enhances operational efficiency. The longevity and low maintenance needs of LED systems are expected to reduce costs and downtime significantly, moving away from the costly and time-consuming routine of annual lamp changes. Looking ahead, we are excited about the future and confident that Fujifilm will play a pivotal role in our journey,” concluded Colin.

Ian Isherwood, Segment Manager, EMEA comments: “This investment highlights our continued partnership with Aztec Label and reflects their ongoing commitment to sustainability as well as ours to innovative technology. It has been a real pleasure seeing their business evolve over the years with the support of our solutions. We look forward to seeing how yet another Fujifilm offering will further contribute to their growth.”

In Fujifilm, we now have the support of a tight-knit, knowledgeable and highly professional team to help us.

Matt Saulsbury | EA Printing

Watch the video

Highlights

  • EA Printing invests in Revoria Press PC1120 enabling them to increase their print offering to customers.
  • Co-owner, Matt Saulsbury, sees the digital press investment and partnership with Fujifilm as positive steps for the future for the company.
  • The digital printing company works with a huge number of major UK and global brands offering a wide range of services.
  • The press features an advanced print engine with 10 colours, including gold, silver, white, pink & clear, easily configurable in six stations.
  • Aside from the special colours, EA Printing has noticed an improvement in productivity and quality compared to their previous press.
  • EA Printing is planning open days for creative agencies to come and see the creative potential of the special colours and effects they can now offer.

A small company in terms of size, Leicestershire-based EA Printing works with a huge number of major UK and global brands, both directly and through creative agencies. Offering a wide range of services, from digital print, to wide format, letterpress, die cutting, embossing and debossing, EA Printing specialises in complex, conceptual work that its customers find hard to get done elsewhere. Needing to replace an end-of-life toner device, the very hands-on business owners Matt Saulsbury and David Kennedy considered a range of options, before opting for the Revoria Press PC1120.

Saulsbury comments: “We’d never dealt with Fujifilm before, because until recently they haven’t been directly involved in the toner market in the UK. Though of course, as everyone knows, Fujifilm-made digital toner presses have been around for a long time, and we’d been using one ourselves for a number of years. I’d always been very impressed with the technology, so when I started seeing a few articles in the trade press about Fujifilm entering the toner market directly in the UK, I was interested. I know the quality of their products and I liked the idea of working with them directly.

“Ultimately it was a visit from a Fujifilm wide format sales rep that really got the ball rolling. He came to talk to us about wide format, but we quickly got talking about Revoria, and it all went from there.

“We did consider a few other options, including sticking with our existing supplier, but ultimately we decided that we needed to take the opportunity to invest in something that was going to help us differentiate our offering and grow our business, rather than just stand still and keep doing what we had been doing. When we’d decided that, the choice was obvious.”

EA Printing’s Revoria Press PC1120 was installed in late December 2023 and was put straight to work from early January. “It was incredibly busy right away,” Saulsbury continues. “Even before we were fully trained up on how to use it, we had jobs coming in. We really liked the fact that it had a white ink option, with all the requests we get now for printing on dark or coloured board. We’d also immediately seen the potential for the gold and silver ink options to win us high value work with metallic effects. But, somewhat to our surprise, the biggest advantage so far has been the pink ink – which has already won us some greeting cards work. The creative agency sourcing the greetings cards needed a print supplier who could produce fluorescent colours, and the florescent pink we can achieve on the PC1120 was exactly right for what they needed.

“The other advantage of the pink, from a much more practical point of view, is that we can now match far more pantone colours than we could before. We’re always getting customers bringing slightly unusual colours to us and asking if we can match them. With the pink, we can do that far more now than we could before.”

With so much more the company can now offer, EA Printing is planning some open days for creative agencies to come and see the creative potential of the special colours and effects now on offer. Aside from the special colours, Saulsbury also notes the improved productivity and quality they’re noticing compared with their previous press.

“The quality has surprised me.” Saulsbury confesses. “I knew it was a step up from what we had before – but hadn’t expected that step up to be as big as it has. We’ve really noticed it and we’ve had customers remark on it as well. “It’s also a lot faster than what we had before, which is particularly noticeable when we’re crunching through longer run print jobs. Then there’s the long sheet format option, which we can also duplex print from a high capacity tray. Taken altogether, it all adds up to a massive productivity boost.”

In a challenging market, Saulsbury is confident about his own company’s prospects and sees his new investment and partnership with Fujifilm as positive steps in facing that future.

Leading UK print company expands capabilities and enhances operational efficiency with combined investment in Fujifilm’s Jet Press 750S High Speed Model, Revoria Press PC1120 and Revoria Press E1 Series. Based in Walton-on-Thames, UK, Impress is a family owned business that has grown into an award-winning print business with a reputation for quality and sustainability. Over the course of more than three decades, Impress has delivered marketing materials for a diverse clientele, including both end-users and creative agencies.

After one of the company’s previous digital machines reached end of life, the team at Impress were exploring various options in the market. Michael Kille, Managing Director, Impress Print Services, comments: “The quality produced on our previous digital machine was good, but there were productivity issues. Now, the Fujifilm machines do what we need them to do straight away, with minimal downtime, enhancing our overall business productivity and efficiency. Furthermore, our production capabilities and our value offering have been significantly enhanced through the addition of B2 digital, which complements our litho offering.

“Additionally,” Kille continues. “The special colours on the Revoria PC1120 have really helped us to retain certain types of work that would previously have been B1 litho printed, and we’re delighted with the quality and productivity of the monochrome Revoria E1.”

The new presses have propelled Impress into new markets, such as short-run packaging (through the Jet Press), and enabled it to bring previously outsourced B1 litho work in-house (through the Revoria presses).

Impress is a business that prioritises sustainability; as evidenced through their commitment to recycling materials; their ongoing sustainability programme, and the harnessing of solar power for their own energy needs. When considering the investment, Impress placed huge importance on the overall environmental credentials of the new machines.

Michael comments: “Since installing the Fujifilm machines, we’ve seen a significant reduction in power usage. In particular, with the efficiencies created by the Jet Press 750S, its B2 capability and enhanced productivity, coupled with the lack of breakdowns and smooth workflow, our waste and downtime has reduced and output has significantly increased.”

He concludes: “It’s been a fantastic experience working with Fujifilm through the sales and installation process, and they are always responsive when providing ongoing support. They are truly one of the top suppliers in the industry. Thanks to Fujifilm, we now have the best in inkjet and the best in toner, and a business that runs more productively and effectively than ever before.”

Taro Aoki, Head of Digital Press Solutions, Fujifilm Graphic Communications Europe comments: “Fujifilm is unique in the market in offering the best of both toner and inkjet solutions and it’s always particularly rewarding to partner with businesses who recognise the enormous potential of the combination of these new technologies. But our market-leading technologies are only half of the story. We’re equally proud of the service we provide after installation as we help businesses to develop and grow. This bold investment from Impress is just the beginning, we look forward to working with them in the months and years to come as they grow their offering and their business and bring the benefits of best-in-class-toner and inkjet technology to their own customers.”

UK-based signage and vehicle livery specialist Allen Signs has become the first company to invest in Fujifilm’s new Acuity Prime Hybrid printer. The ground-breaking wide format hybrid machine , which was released earlier this year, is highly versatile due to its ability to handle both rigid and flexible media.

The family-run wide format business was established in 1965, and since then, has been producing a variety of different signage applications for its consumers. David Allen, the company’s Managing Director, says his interest in the Acuity Prime Hybrid stemmed from its versatility and economical ink consumption.

Allen comments: “Due to our familiarity with hybrid platforms, we sought the Acuity Prime Hybrid as an opportunity to explore the Fujifilm brand further. The printer has now allowed us to carry out our normal production with minimal issues and excellent quality and ink performance.”

Allen adds that the Acuity Prime Hybrid’s versatility has enabled his business to print on a wider variety of substrates more efficiently and cost-effectively. The machine is already being used to print on wall coverings, direct to board and even metallic surfaces.

Impressed by the printer’s ease of use, Matt Ryder, Print Specialist at Allen Signs, says: “We tried a job on the new Fujifilm machine, and instantly, it tracked. It was perfect. As for materials, we are yet to come across a substrate that doesn’t work.”

Having built a partnership, based on trust, with Fujifilm, Allen adds: “Fujifilm has been an absolute breeze to deal with. The installation and the training were extremely quick and efficient. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Acuity Prime Hybrid printer will allow us to expand our business in the future.”

Andy Kent, Division Manager, Fujifilm Graphic Communications UK, states: “We are delighted to hear that our wide range of customers are more than satisfied with our printing technologies. As a result of Allen Signs investing in our Acuity Prime Hybrid, they have seen significant increases in print quality and a reduction in costs, whilst expanding their substrate selection. It’s fantastic to see them exploring new business opportunities.”

With more than 9,000 employees in 20 countries and an annual turnover of more than €1.2 billion, Paragon Group is a major global player in direct mail, transactional print, business outsourcing and packaging. Within that wider business, Paragon Germany employs more than 1,200 employees across eight locations in Germany, Czech Republic and Poland.

Looking to replace legacy inkjet imprinting equipment on a direct mail printing production line in Schwandorf, Germany, the company has turned to Fujifilm and its industry-leading imprinting solutions, installing a pair of one metre wide Fujifilm imprinting bars to print to the front and the reverse of the web.

“There were a number of reasons we went with Fujifilm over rival systems,” explains Bernd Wein, Paragon Operations Director, Direct Mail. “We liked that they fully own all the technologies – the printheads as well as the integration technology. It gives us confidence to be dealing with one partner – a partner that we were confident could offer the service and support we need to ensure ongoing smooth operation and the swift resolution to any problems.

“It’s also proven technology,” Mr Wein continues. “Fujifilm has a long heritage in inkjet, and its imprinting solutions are tried and tested. They’re a strong and respected manufacturer and a financially robust and stable company that we know we can depend on over the long term.

“The fact that Fujifilm acquired Unigraphica in 2022 was also a factor in our investment decision. The combination of Fujifilm and Unigraphica inkjet systems integration expertise was a very attractive proposition.”

“Finally, Fujifilm was also able to provide a bespoke system as large as one metre wide. No one else we spoke to was able to do that. And furthermore, compared with our legacy system, the Fujifilm imprinting system gives us more up-time, shorter set-up times and results in far less waste.”

Stefan Steinle, Sales & Business Development Manager, FUJIFILM Integrated Inkjet Solutions, Europe comments: “We’re delighted that a company of Paragon’s reputation and standing has chosen to invest in Fujifilm inkjet imprinting technology. We look forward to boosting Paragon’s productivity, and reducing its costs for many years to come.”
